Velai Illa Pattathari is a Tamil movie by Siru Saravanan, which was released in the year 2012. It stars Ajmal Ameer and Anjali. The story revolves around Vel (Ajmal Ameer), who goes on his first foreign trip to an island with his friends Madhan (Anjali) and Siva (Arjun). On this journey, he experiences many adventures one after another. He falls in love with the beautiful heroine Shanthi (Anjali Menon), but everything goes wrong due to circumstances beyond their control. The film won two National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor(AJ) and Best Cinematography(Saravanan Siru). Vel (Ajmal Ameer) is a freewheeling rich boy who lives with his widowed mother. He goes on a vacation to Pala island with his friends, Madhan (Anjali) and Siva (Arjun). They get acquainted with lovely girl Shanthi (Anjali Menon), who belongs to a very rich family of Pala. Shanthi falls for Vel, but Vel does not show the same enthusiasm. Unfortunately, Shanthi's life takes an unexpected turn, and she loses her parents in an accident. She comes back to the island with her friend Seema (Seema Biswas). Vel did not realize that this incident would change himself forever. He starts going in a new direction in his life. He decides to make a difference in the lives of the people, who were forced to go beyond his boundaries. In this way, Vel becomes a true friend of man and nature, and he becomes a true hero in the eyes of the public.The film's soundtrack contains 3 songs composed by Devan Pandiyan. The film opened on 1,096 screens in Chennai city and 547 screens outside Chennai city on July 7th 2012. It was released overseas in 55 screens worldwide including United States, Canada and Singapore. The film was released in about 25 countries including German, UAE and Australia . It was also released on DVD version which comes with English subtitles also. The film received several positive reviews from critics. "Sify" rated 4 out of 5 and stated that "the film dwells on the real essence of a holiday where a group of friends go on a trip. What happens in between is what this journey is about". Behindwoods gave 3.25 out of 5 and said that "'Velai illa Pattathari' has all the right ingredients for an entertaining weekend experience". Nowrunning rated 3.5 out of 5 and said that "'Velai Illa Pattathari' is one such film which lives up to its title". It grossed $1,079,998 at the box office.
